West Indies ‘A’ made 264/5 when Kraigg Brathwaite (92) and Captain Kirk Edwards (91) missing well earned centuries against India ‘A’ on the opening day of the four-day ‘test’ played at Gangotri Glades grounds here today.
Looking to take early advantage after winning the toss, India ‘A’ Captain Cheteshwar Pujara sent the visitors in. But batting first did not prove difficult for the West Indians, while the India ‘A’ bowling also remained less penetrative.
A B Fudadin 4 (not out) AND Chadwick Walton 26 (not out) were at the crease when stumps were drawn for the day.
After playing the pre-lunch session cautiously, two West Indian batsmen looked for runs. Medium pacer Ashok Dinda, who were expected to trouble the West Indian batsmen failed to trouble the second wicket pair while the others struggled.
After tea, Edwards (162b, 11×4, 1×6) looked to score freely against tiring bowlers as the second man was out clean bowled by Pandey and took his team to safety. Barthwaite left next caught by wicket keeper motwani off Rasool.
The promising J&K off-spinner persisted admirably to claim his first wicket, inducing an edge off Barthwaite’s blade and caught by keeper Motawni. The West Indian played 215 balls and hit 12 boundaries in the patient innings.
Narasingh Deohanrine looked for runs, but was out caught and bowled by Rasool, who took his second wicket, leaving West Indies A at 4 for 223.
