To bring all stakeholders together, JU celebrating Foundation Day tomorrow

JAMMU, Sept 3: As the University of Jammu is going to celebrate its Foundation Day for the first time since its inception, by organizing multiple events on September 5, Vice-Chancellor Prof Umesh Rai has called for bringing all stakeholders together for giving the premier institution a global visibility.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha shall be chief guest on the occasion of Foundation Day celebration whereas Chancellor-K R Manglam University and former Vice Chancellor of Delhi University, Prof Dinesh Singh will grace the occasion as special guest.
Besides a variety of cultural programmes, release of Dogri translation of the Indian Constitution by Prof Arvind Jasrotia and his team will be special attraction on the occasion.

Sharing this information during a curtain raiser meet with media persons, here today, JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Umesh Rai spoke about the idea behind celebrating the Foundation Day and said that the objective is to bring all the stakeholders together for benefit of the university.
“This Foundation Day is an occasion to come together and celebrate our proud history with our community of students, staff, alumni, and supporters. While we look back on our past achievements and the challenges and difficulties we have overcome, we must also remember the passion, professionalism, and commitment that our non-teaching staff and the student community have shown over time to take the university to the new height of achievements,” he said.
Maintaining that every generation must write their history so that weaknesses can be addressed and strengths can be recognized, the Vice-Chancellor said that such events help an institution to increase its global visibility and also changes the perception of the University among people.
In response to a query, Prof Umesh Rai said that stress should be made to strengthen existing subjects and departments before introducing new ones. He also spoke about some of the initiatives which the University has taken recently to take education to the larger segment of society.
Stating that NCC, Sports, NSS and Cultural activities are also important medium of education, the Vice-Chancellor said that students representing University at District, State, National and International levels shall be given additional marks, for which a committee shall be constituted to decide the percentage of marks.
Prof Umesh Rai further informed that besides National Scholarship Programme, JU is also working to raise funds through Alumni Association for students from weaker sections.
JU Registrar, Prof Arvind Jasrotia; Prof Naresh Padha, DAA; Prof Prakash C Anathal, DSW and Prof Shyam Narayan accompanied the Vice-Chancellor during the press conference.
