No breach of fencing: BSF

JAMMU, Sept 29: The Border Security Force (BSF) today said there was no breach of border fencing by militants involved in twin terror strikes in Hiranagar and Samba last Thursday in which 10 people, four of them Army personnel, were killed.
A probe was on into the matter and its outcome would be known in two-three days, BSF Additional Director General R D Singh said in a brief media interaction after visiting the International Border (IB) at Hiranagar today.
“The fence has not been cut anywhere. I have seen the terrain. There are so many nullahs along the International Border. At the initial stage I can’t say anything as a probe is on,” he said.
Mr Singh was replying to questions by media persons on whether the militants, involved in twin suicide attacks in Kathua and Samba, had breached border fencing.
“The BSF has ordered an inquiry into the infiltration of the suicide squad from across the border. The result will emerge in two-three days,” he said.
However, the damaged portion of the fencing due to recent rains and flashfloods would be repaired soon, the BSF officer said.
Mr Singh visited Pansar, Manyari, Paharpur and Bobiya forward posts in Hiranagar sector to review situation on the borders. IG BSF, Jammu Frontiers, SS Tomar accompanied him.
The Additional DG BSF said the BSF was committed to thwart all infiltration attempts on the borders.
He said the internal inquiry ordered by the BSF would establish route of infiltration of the militants, if it was made from Hiranagar sector.
On September 26, three terrorists had stormed Hiranagar police station in Kathua and then an Army camp at Mehsar in Samba, killing 10, including four Army men, four police personnel and two civilians in twin strikes after they sneaked in from across the border. The Army in their camp at Mehsar eliminated all three fidayeen the same day.
