SRINAGAR, Oct 2: Powered by a good display of batting and bowling skills by Mujeeb-ul-Haq, Muneeb Ali, Rahul and Raja Haroon, the Jammu and Kashmir team scripted a narrow win by 10 runs over Indian Public Schools Conference (IPSC) to stay alive in the ongoing 59th National School Games Under-14 Boys Cricket Tournament, being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports at various venues, here.
At Higher Secondary School Ground, Bijbehara, electing to bat first, J&K scored a modest total of 123 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Mujeeb-ul-Haq was the top scorer with brilliant 45 runs, while Muneeb Ali contributed valuable 29 runs to the total.
In reply, IPSC could manage only 113 runs by losing 6 wickets in the allotted overs, thus lost the match by a narrow margin of 10 runs. Rahul and Raja Haroon took 2 wickets each.
In another match, Chattisgarh defeated Andhra Pradesh by 4 wickets. Batting first, Andhra Pradesh bundled out for paltry 96 runs and Chattisgarh achieved the target in 19 overs, losing 6 wickets in the process.
In another match, Jharkhand thrashed Tamil Nadu by 8 wickets. Batting first, Tamil Nadu scored modest total of 107 runs, while Jharkhand achieved the requisite target in 18 overs by losing 2 wickets.
Punjab won against Rajasthan by 6 wickets. Rajasthan batting first, managed to score 117 runs in the allotted 20 overs by losing 4 wickets. Punjab achieved the target in 18 overs losing 4 wickets.
Gujarat defeated Karnataka by 6 wickets. Karnataka scored 112 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs, while Gujarat achieved the target easily by losing 4 wickets in the process.
West Bengal drubbed Tamil Nadu by 8 wickets. Tamil Nadu scored 100 runs for 6 and West Bengal reached the target in 16.3 overs by losing 2 wickets.
In another contest, Uttar Pradesh defeated Chandigarh by 35 runs. Uttar Pradesh batting first, scored 123 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs. Chasing the target, Chandigarh could manage only 88 runs for 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
The tournament is being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, under the aegis of School Games Federation of India (SGFI) and under the overall supervision of Director General Youth Services and Sports, Navin Agarwal.
