JAMMU, Oct 2: Tawi Trekkers J&K, one of the biggest trekking organizations in the country, celebrated its 30th Anniversary here, today. In a simple but impressive function held at K L Saigal Hall, the Club honoured its members for the successful conduct of its programme during 2013.
On the occasion, 25 institutions which participated in Himalayan Trekking Programmes, Sport Climbing Training and Competitions, Debates and Painting competitions and remained associated with other activities of the club were honoured by the chief guest Neeru Goswami, Deputy Advocate General.
Rajan Sharma, Sports Officer (Jammu) and Rashid Ahmad, an international fencer and a member of J&K State Sports Council, who were the guest of honour and special guest respectively were also honoured on the occasion.
A number of outstanding mountaineers including Everester Ram Singh, who was the Director of J&K Himalayan Programme, Stanzin Youthog, the first Indian girl to scale Shivling peak and a number of members who successfully completed Basic Course in Mountaineering were also felicitated.
Earlier, Ram Khajuria, general secretary of Tawi Trekkers J&K presented a brief note on the adventure activities being organized by the club and thanked various agencies for the valuable support.
Among others present on the occasion included Prof Lalit Magotra, president of Dogri Sanstha Jammu, Sumant Singh Jamwal, president and Office Bearers of Tawi Trekkers, Shamsher Singh, Yogeshwar Kumar and Navneet Gupta of Mountaineering Association of J&K.
Sport Climbing team which is going to participate in the North Zone Sport Climbing Championship at Delhi was also given an emotional send off on the occasion.
