Home Deptt seeks report from DGP

JAMMU, Sept 20: The Government has mooted a proposal to bring the Indian Reserve Police (IRP) at par with Armed Police in terms of staff, promotion avenues and other facilities at the Non-Gazetted Officers (NGOs) level.
“After finalization and approval by the Jammu and Kashmir Government, the proposal will be sent to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for final approval,” the officials said.
The Home Department today wrote to Director General of Police Dilbag Singh seeking detailed report on the representation submitted by the members of the IRP Armed battalion for enhancement of quota at the non-Gazetted level in J&K to bring it at par with other components of police.
The Home Department sought a concrete proposal enabling it to proceed further in the matter.
The officials said after receiving proposal from the Director General of Police, the Home Department will submit it for approval of Jammu and Kashmir Government and then the proposal will go to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for final nod.
There has been different structure in the Indian Reserve Police and Armed Police at all levels including Gazetted Officers, Non-Gazetted Officers and Other Ranks.
The proposal is aimed at overcoming the discrepancies and bring IRP and Armed Police at same level.
“Equal number of posts at all levels will lead to equal promotional avenues,” the officials said,
Due to uneven posts especially at the NGOs level, the promotional aspects are affected. Equal number of posts will, however, overcome this major lacunae, the officials said, adding the exercise has been initiated taking this major aspect into account.
The issue of bringing the Indian Reserve Police and Armed Police at par had also figured earlier at various levels. However, now the proposal has been given formal shape and within a couple of months, it is expected to be resolved, the officials said.
