JAMMU, Oct 6: Defeating almost equally balanced side of Uttar Pradesh in an easy contest by 7 wickets in the summit clash, the formidable team of Delhi lifted the title trophy in the 59th National School Games Under-14 Boys Cricket Championship, which concluded at Sher-i-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, Srinagar today.
The Championship was organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, under aegis of School Games Federation of India.
Earlier, batting first, UP scored a meagre total of 109 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 30 overs.
In reply, Delhi chased the target easily, scoring the required runs in 24 overs, losing 3 wickets in the process, thus won the match by 7 wickets. Kavish Gaur was declared man of the match for his magnificent innings of 46 runs. In hardliner, NVS defeated CBSC to claim the third place.
The final match was followed by colourful Closing and Prize distribution Ceremony, wherein Feroz Ahmad Khan, MoS Youth Services and Sports was the chief guest and Ashok Prasad, Director General of Police J&K was the guest of honour.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Navin Agarwal, Director General Youth Services and Sports said that convergence of children from 21 States in Srinagar sends the message that the situation in Kashmir is peaceful. He also highlighted the role of J&K Police in promoting sports and games apart from performing their own duties.
Feroz Ahmad Khan said that the State Government under the dynamic leadership of the young Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah is keen to uplift the sports in the State by hosting more such mega events.
Later, the chief guest and other dignitaries distributed trophies and individual medals among the winners and runners-up teams, apart from the third position holders.
