‘Rupees 40 lakh released in favour of association’

JAMMU, June 13: After the alleged multi-crore scam that surfaced in Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) a few months back, putting its affiliate members in dilemma and the players in the lurch, the association would resume cricket activities in both the wings very soon. Though, it is not a great feeling to work in the prevailing situation, yet with the season in sight, holding activities for preparing State teams for national/zonal tournaments is the need of the hour.
This was stated by Prof Manzoor Wazir, treasurer JKCA, while talking to Daily Excelsior and expressing concern over the present scenario in the association.
He said, “On the directions of Dr Farooq Abdullah, President JKCA, I had filed an application in the Court and requested for release of funds in favour of the association to run activities in both the wings and more importantly to reinitiate the pending work in connection with establishment of underground piping system at Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium Srinagar. Now, the Court has issued an order with regard to releasing an amount to the tune of Rs 40 lakh in favour of the association”.
The JKCA treasurer further said that 3/4th work in connection with underground piping system/water drainage system at Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium has already been covered and with the release of funds the little left over work would be completed soon, adding that for transparency in running the affairs of the association, we have constituted a committee, which apart from other members includes Joint Secretary and Vice Chairman of Kashmir wing. “For that matter, JKCA has already hired an expert who has the distinction of contributing in the developmental works of International Stadium at Dharamshalla in Himachal Pradesh”, informed JKCA treasurer.
In the meantime, we are initiating the organization of the activities in both the wings of the association and for doing so the Kashmir wing has approached the authorities of the Kashmir University and the Islamia College for using their playgrounds and the response has been positive, Wazir further informed.
On a question as to what was the status on the stay on in-house probing committee, Manzoor said that the Court has fixed another date for tomorrow.
Meanwhile, rejecting the reports with regard to hiring of Leela Karan Sharma as Counsel for Dr Farooq Abdullah, President JKCA, in seeking vacation of stay order on in-house probe committee attained by rival group within the association, Wazir said that it is Mushtaq Ahmed Maqdoomi, who would be Dr Farooq’s counsel in the Court.
