* Abhishek wins Gold, Abhijeet secures Silver

JAMMU, Oct 11: Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh Wushu team proved its mettle in the 36th National Games at Gandhinagar in Gujarat by securing 6 medals including one Gold, one Silver and four Bronze medals in Wushu, today.
With the winning of the six medals in the National Games, J&K also secured top place in the Wushu with six medals, while Haryana and Services stood 2nd and 3rd in the medals tally in this discipline.
Abhishek Jamwal won first Gold medal for Jammu and Kashmir in 56kg Wushu Sanda by defeating Mayank Mahajan of Punjab at the Mahatma Mandir Complex, Gandhinagar, while Abhijeet Salathia secured Silver as he lose to Suraj Yadav of Uttar Pradesh in 70 kg.
Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha congratulated the players especially Abhishek Jamwal for securing Gold in the Games. “Congratulations to Abhishek Jamwal for winning the Gold in Wushu in the 36th National Games being played at Gujarat. His tenacity is admirable. J&K UT is proud of his accomplishments,” he tweeted.
Inshat Singh (65kg) and Pankaj Raina (75kg) of Jammu and Kashmir satisfied with Bronze, besides Owais Sarwar Ahengar (65kg) and Pratham Singh (75kg), from Ladakh also won Bronze medals.
“We dedicate the medals to the loving memory of DGP HK Lohia who remained President of J&K Wushu Association for many years and played a pivotal role in promotion of Wushu and in welfare of the players,” Kuldeep Handoo said who is accompanying the J&K team in the National Games.
Ladakh broke their duck as Owais Sarwar Ahengar (65kg class and Pratham Singh (75kg class) were the two medallists from Union Territory competing in the National Games for the first time.
Meanwhile Secretary Sports Council Nuzhat Gul, Vice President J&K Wushu Association and Member Sports Council Ranjeet Kalra and other office bearers of the Association congratulated the J&K team on their spectacular successes.
