Thrilling victories take JKP XI, Simula Club to T20 finals

JAMMU, Oct 9: Last ball victories over their respective rivals in the semifinal clashes, helped Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) XI and Simula Cricket Club to make it to the finals of the ongoing Jammu Tawi Premier T20 Cricket Tournament, being organized by Young Star Cricket Club, Jammu at MA Stadium, here.
In first semifinal, JKP outplayed Challenger Cricket Club in an exciting contest by 3 runs. Batting first, JKP scored a modest total of 114 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Rompy top scored with 23 runs, while Rajesh Gill contributed 19 runs to the total. Farooq and RK Bhat chipped in with valuable 14 and 13 runs respectively. For Challenger Club, Sahil Sharma and Pranav Gupta took 2 wickets each, while Rahil Singh claimed one.
Challenger Club, in reply, managed to score 111 runs in the allotted 20 overs, thus lost the match by a narrow margin of 3 runs. Rohit Bhat top scored with 38 runs, while Sahil Sharma contributed 34 runs to the total. Manjeet Singh chipped in with 13 runs. Anshuman Singh was the pick of the bowlers for JKP, scalping 3 important wickets, while Rompy Sharma bagged 2 wickets and Ashwani claimed one. Rompy was declared man of the match.
In another semifinal, Simula Club got better of Stadium XI Kathua by 1 run in a nail biting contest.
Simula Club after batting first scored a modest total of 121 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 8 wickets in the process. Hardeep Singh played a brilliant innings of 44 runs, while Puneet Kumar and Dhruv Mahajan contributed 34 and 22 runs to the total respectively. For Kathua, Himanshu bagged 4 wickets, while Arvind and Sheetal claimed 2 wickets each.
Kathua, in reply fell short of just one run as they managed 120 runs in 20 overs. Ankush, Arvind and Himanshu contributed 28, 25 and 20 runs to the total respectively. For Simula Club, Hilal Rather and Sameer Khajuria bagged 2 wickets each, while Hardeep Singh claimed one. Hardeep Singh was adjudged man of the match for his all-round show.
