Abhinandan wins 1st prize in Inter-Collegiate Elocution (Extempore) Competition

JAMMU, Oct 9: By his impressive presentation, Abhinandan Singh from Government College of Engineering and Technology bagged first prize in the Inter-Collegiate Elocution (Extempore) Competition conducted by the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu, under the “Display Your Talent” 2013-14, here.
Ambika Bhan from the Law School and Polina Singh Kala, Department of English, University of Jammu were adjudged second and third respectively.
Madhur Mahajan from Model Institute of Engineering and Technology, Jammu and Prabjot Kour from Govt Women College, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu were awarded the Certificates of Merit.
The Contest was extempore, followed by lots. The participants were required to speak for five minutes on the given topic.
The topics of the Competition were “Terrorism and its global affects”, “Benefits of good nutrition”, Freedom of the press”, “HIV AIDS and Health”, “Role of Censor Board in Indian Cinema”, “Global Warming and Climate Change”, “Role of Computers in Education”,  ” Leadership in Indian Youth”, “Traffic Chaos in Jammu”, “Unemployment and Youth”, “Child Marriages in India”, “Youth Violence in India”, “Dangers of Smoking”, “Child Labour”, ” Population Growth in India”, “Corruption in India”, “Responsibility Towards Elders”, “E-governance – Is it necessary?” and ” Domestic V/s Western Culture” etc.
Prof Satnam Kour, Jagdish Chander and Dr Anupama Vohra were the adjudicators for this event.
Prof Yash Pal Sharma, Co-Chairman, Campus Cultural Committee, was the chief guest and distributed the prizes among the winners.
Dr Kavita Suri, Department of Life Long Learning, University of Jammu, Teacher in-Charge, apprised the participants about the Rules and Regulations as well as supervised the competition.
The programme was compeered by Apoorva Jamwal, Secretary Students Cultural Council, while Th Joginder Singh acted as Time Keeper.
