JAMMU, Nov 25: The Cultural and Literary Committee with NSS Units of Govt. SPMR College of Commerce organized an event on the theme ‘India: The Mother of Democracy’, wherein students and staff members participated, here today.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Surinder Kumar, Principal of the College briefed the students about the ‘Constitution of India’ which formally came into effect on January 26, 1950. He also highlighted the salient features of the Constitution, particularly the aspects of pluralism and secularism, fundamental rights etc.
Prof. Barbara Kaul spoke about the farsightedness shown by the drafting members of the Constitution in providing an enduring framework of the rule of law to fulfil the aspiration of masses.
Other staff members including Prof Archana Kaul, Dr Monika Malhotra, Dr Sandhya Bhardwaj, Prof Savita Jamwal, Dr Shamim Ahmed, Prof Harpreet Kour, Dr Deepak Pathania and Dr Sarabjeet Kour were present during the event.
A pledge was taken both in English and Hindi languages by students and staff members after NSS volunteers Deepasha and Rupal Slathia.
The whole event was organized by Prof.Deepshikha Sharma (Convener Cultural and Literary Committee), Prof Rajni Bala and Prof Apfan Ali (NSS Programme Officers).
