JAMMU, Nov 26: Different organizations here today celebrated 73rd Constitution Day and highlighted the importance of Constitutional values of the nation.
High Court of J&K and Ladakh celebrated 73rd Constitution Day by organizing preamble reading of the Constitution in its Jammu wing. Justice Tashi Rabstan led the preamble reading of the Constitution which was followed by all the participants including the Judges of High Court, officers and officials of Registry. Speaking on the occasion Justice Tashi Rabstan said our Constitution framers realized that a Constitution, no matter how well written and how detailed, would have little meaning without the right people to implement it and to live by its values.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were Justice Mohammad Akram Chowdhary, Justice Rajesh Sekhri, M.K Sharma, Member Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority, Haq Nawaz Zargar, Registrar Vigilance, S.R Gandhi, Registrar Judicial (Jammu), Amit Kumar Gupta, Registrar Inspection, Prem Sagar, Secretary, HCLSC, Parveen Pandoh, Joint Registrar and others.
At Srinagar, the proceedings commenced with reading of the preamble which was led by Justice Sanjay Dhar. The occasion was also graced by the presence of Justice Moksha Khajuria Kazmi, Joint Registrar (Judicial), Registry officers, officers and officials of Srinagar Wing of High Court who also took part in reading of the preamble.
J&K Legal Services Authority celebrated 73rd Constitution Day by organizing series of activities across J&K. Legal Services Institutions started celebration of the day by reading the preamble of the Constitution at all the headquarters of Legal Services Institutions in J&K. The preamble was read by the Chairpersons DLSAs (Pr. Dist. and Session Judges) wherein all the officers/officials of the Court and DLSA offices participated.
DLSA Samba in collaboration with Dogra Law College Samba organized a seminar on ‘India – the Mother of Democracy’. Justice Tashi Rabstan, Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority was chief guest, who while speaking on the occasion stated that the theme of this year’s Constitution Day is quite apt because constitution of India is a handwritten document in 90,000 words and its philosophy is everlasting – but its structure and clauses are flexible. Sonia Gupta, PDJ Samba (Chairperson DLSA Samba) delivered the welcome address while Rekha Kapoor Nischal, Secretary DLSA Samba delivered the vote of thanks.
Udhampur District Court celebrated the Constitution Day with a reading out of Preamble of the Constitution of India. The function was presided over by Chairman DLSA Udhampur (Principal District and Session Judge Y.P Bourney). Additional District & Session Judge, Dinesh Gupta, Sub Judge, CJM Manoj Parihar, Judges, President Bar Association, J.D Slathia along with office bearers of Bar Association and others attended the function. Speaking on occasion session Judge Y.P Bourney said the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment on November 19, 2015 notified the decision of Government of India to celebrate 26th day of November every year as Constitution Day to promote Constitutional values among citizens.
Under the aegis of NALSA, JKLSA and also under the guidance and supervision of R.N Watal, Chairman, DLSA Reasi celebrated Constitution Day at District Court Complex, Reasi. On this occasion Chief Judicial Magistrate, Reasi Archana Charak said: “The day reminds us of our dedication to serve the society, particularly the poor and downtrodden sections of the society to ensure justice to all”.
Besides this Tehsil Legal Services Committee Katra and Mahore also celebrated Constitution Day at their respective places.
During a function to celebrate ‘Samvidhan Diwas’ Kavinder Gupta, senior BJP leader advised the people that while enjoying the rights guaranteed to them by the Constitution they must not forget their duties towards nation. Dr. Davinder Manyal, Ex-Minister; Prof. Garu Ram, DDC Member; Neelam Langeh, Ex MLA; Vidhya Mitran, DDC member and others were also present on the occasion.
In a function J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) celebrated the Constitution Day as Pledge Day and declared to protect and respect the Constitution as a holy book for all. Senior Congress leader, Mula Ram Bhagat; Kanta Bhan, Yogesh Sawhney, Ravinder Sharma, Manmohan Singh, Hari Singh Chib, Gurdarshan Singh, Krishan Lal Gupta, Sanjeev Panda, Manjit Singh Jatt, Imtiaz Ahmed Khandey, Narinder Gupta, Suresh Dogra, Udey Chib, Vijay Sharma and others were also present.
District Congress Committee (DCC) Udhampur under the chairmanship of its president, K.C Bhagat celebrated the Constitution Day along with all senior party leaders.
JKPCC observed Constitution Day at Srinagar Party Office and commemorated its adoption in India. Senior Congress leader, Ghulam Nabi Monga said that Constitution reflects the idea of secular India.
The Constitution Day was also observed by DCC Anantnag, Baramulla, Kupwara, Ganderbal, Srinagar and other districts in which Congress leaders and workers participated and hailed great contributions of Dr. Ambedkar.
Aam Aadmi Party organized an event in Jammu to take Constitution Pledge and to celebrate Constitution Day.
J&K BSP celebrated Constitution Day and S.R Majotra, BSP leader remembered the contribution of Dr. Bheem Rao Ambedkar who was chairman of Constitution Drafting Committee.
Senior DAP leader and Sarpanch, Badrinath Sharma along with leaders from different political parties celebrated Constitution Day and paid rich tributes to Dr. B.R Ambedkar in R.S Pura.
Central Sanskrit University, Shri Ranbir Campus, Jammu celebrated the Constitution Day and held a pledge taking ceremony under the joint aegis of National Service Scheme Unit of the campus and Sports, Culture and Youth Service Center in the premises of the campus. Prof. Satish Kumar Kapoor, Director Incharge of the campus said that India is known as the mother of democracy, where democracy has taken its roots deep into the DNA of the citizens of the country.
Department of Sociology, University of Jammu celebrated Constitution Day by organizing ‘Poster Making and Slogan Writing’ competition for students and scholars of the Department.
Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University celebrated Constitution Day with patriotic fervor and gaiety in the presence of Prof. Akbar Masood, Vice Chancellor of the University, who administered reading of the preamble to the Constitution to all the participants.
The Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awantipora celebrated Constitution Day wherein the faculty, non teaching staff and students participated with zeal and enthusiasm. The session was presided over by Prof. Naseer Iqbal, Registrar IUST and coordinated by Dr. Anisa Jan, Dean Students IUST.
Central University of Kashmir under the aegis of Directorate of Students Welfare commemorated the Constitution Day which was attended by all the teaching and administrative staff of the varsity. Addressing the participants, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Farooq A. Shah talked about the richness, diversity and dynamic nature of the Constitution.
Constitution Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at University of Kashmir. In this connection, the School of Law organized a quiz competition and an awareness programme that aimed to highlight the salient features of the Constitution.
National Institute of Technology Srinagar celebrated National Constitution Day and organized an event which was presided over by In-charge Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. M.F Wani while event was coordinated by Dr. Srinibash Mishra, Assistant Professor at Metallurgy and Metallurgical Engineering Department. The preamble reading and the pledge administration took place in presence of a large gathering.
The NSS unit of Government College of Education, Jammu organized slogan writing competition on Constitution Day under the guidance of the Principal, Prof Aekta Gupta and NSS PO Dr Shubhra Jamwal. Along with the competition, reading of Preamble in different languages was done by the volunteers.
The purpose of the event was to make students aware about the significance of Indian Constitution and the key role played by Dr B R Ambedkar in drafting the Constitution.
Volunteers participated enthusiastically in the event and wrote thought provoking slogans about Indian Constitution. Prof Anju Bala, Dr Jyoti Parihar and Prof Radhika Mahajan were the judges of the contest. Rashmi Singh bagged first position, Arushi Sharma and Anu Bagal secured second and third position in the slogan writing competition.
The NSS wing of K.C College of Education celebrated 73rd Constitution Day to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. A poster cum slogan writing competition was conducted on the theme ‘The Fundamental Rights and their relevance in the present scenario’.
NSS Unit of Dogra Degree College in collaboration with BA Department organized an event to mark the National Constitution Day. More than 50 attendees including NSS volunteers joined to attain awareness about their Constitution. A symposium highlighting the salient features of Indian Constitution was also organized.

Mayor JMC, Rajinder Sharma participated in Constitution Day celebrations and recalled that in 1949 on this day, Independent India laid the foundation of new future for itself. The celebrations were attended by Commissioner JMC, Rahul Yadav and all officers of JMC.
ADGP Jammu administered oath to Police officers and Jawans to commemorate Constitution Day. The main function was held at Zonal Police Headquarters Jammu where ADGP Mukesh Singh read out the preamble of the Constitution of India and administered oath to Police officers and Jawans, whereas the pledge functions were held simultaneously at all the Jammu based District Police Headquarters and other Police establishments.
Police Technical Training Institute (PTTI) Vijaypur held a preamble reading ceremony to commemorate ‘Samvidhan Divas’ wherein Khalil Ahmed Poswal, Principal PTTI briefed the staff and trainees on significance of Indian Constitution and its role in providing equality and liberty to all individuals. Rajinder Singh Rahi, Vice Principal, Sajjad Ahmad Khan, DySP (Indoor/PIO), Satish Kumar, DySP (Admn/Outdoor) and other officers were also present during the event.
The Constitution Day was also celebrated by Dulhasti Power Station and preamble to the Constitution of India was read by M.K Kashyap, Group General Manager (In-Charge) along with senior officers and employees.
NHPC Limited celebrated Constitution Day across all its power stations, projects and units to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. Y.K Chaubey, CMD, NHPC read out the preamble of Constitution of India in the presence of NHPC officers and employees connected through an online medium.
All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organizations J&K in collaboration with Nami Dogri Sanstha organized a seminar on ‘Role of Dr. B.R Ambedkar for drafting Indian Constitution’ to mark 73rd Constitution Day.
