Jora lays foundation of Stadium, Youth Hostel at Spituk

LEH, Oct 18: Minister for Urban Development and Local Bodies, Nawang Rigzin Jora today laid foundation stone of Open Stadium and Youth Hostel at Spituk in presence of Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC, Leh, Rigzin Spalbar.
The stadium and youth hostel projects worth Rs. 20.35 crore are being executed under ‘Task Force’, a special grant of Rs. 200 crore sanctioned by the Union Government for the Leh district. The projects spread over 130 kanals of land will have an open stadium with an estimated sitting capacity of 30,000 spectators. It will have facilities for organizing sports activities like football, cricket, hockey, Olympic size track etc. The Youth Hotel will have the capacity of over one thousand beds with all the facilities of boarding and lodging for the sports persons and other supporting staff.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Jora said local youth have lot of sports potential provided that is nurtured in a systematic way. He hoped that the new facilities will open a new chapter to promote the sports skills of Ladakhi youth and they will avail the opportunities and bring laurel for the State as well as for the country.
Referring to Bangkok Marathon winner Rigzin Angmo, the Minister said that Ladakhis can excel particularly in two sports namely, marathon with nature advantage of physical build up and traditional archeries which we must practice hard to earn our name and fame at International level. He urged the youth to concentrate on particular sports of their interest and become an iconic player, adding that this can be possible with the hard efforts and constant practices. He asked the youth to develop hunger for the sports and utilize the available opportunities. He said the Government would develop all necessary infrastructural facilities to promote sports in the region to encourage the talent.
Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC, Rigzin Spalbar spoke in details about the futuristic plan of stadium having multiple sports facilities said the stadium with international standards definitely help the youth to touch pinnacle of success. He also informed that indoor stadium near council secretariat is also coming up and Center Government had already sanctioned Rs. 7 crore for it while work on Ice Hockey Stadium is in full swing, so our children have a bright future to show their talent in various fields.
Earlier, Executive Councilor for Youth Services and Sport Gurmat Dorjay also space on the occasion.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Tsering Morup presented vote of thanks on the occasion.
During the inaugural session, GOC 14 Corps, Lt. Gen Rakesh Sharma, Chief of Staff 14 Corps, Maj Gen Sanjay Kulkarni, socio religious heads, political leaders, Councillors, Sarpanches, Panches, Army, Paramilitary, Air Force, Institution heads, school children were present.
Meanwhile, to review the latest progress on development of Jivetsal in the wake of holding Kalachakra next year by Dalai Lama, the Minister for Urban Development Nawang Rigzin Jora along with CEC, LAHDC, Leh Rigzin Spalbar inspected Jivetsal Choglamsar. After inspecting the ongoing works on drainage, sitting arrangements parking, water supply and public toilets etc, Minister Jora urged upon all the executing agencies to put their best efforts in completing the works especially earth works including ground leveling during the current working season.
