SRINAGAR, Nov 30: The Federation of Chambers of Industries Kashmir (FCIK) today demanded that the Government’s ambitious industrialization plan for Jammu and Kashmir be carried out and encouraged through internal cohesion and significant bureaucracy.
A spokesperson of FCIK said presidents of various industrial estates complained to the advisory committee during a meeting about their problems, including the bureaucratic delays and callousness in assisting aspiring entrepreneurs to establish their industrial ventures as well as the prompt resolution of issues preventing the smooth operation of the current industry. “The members demanded that the entire industry department be reorganized with a clear line of command that makes decisions quickly and delegated authority to subordinate members,” he said.
He further said that FCIK members expressed regret that seven out of 10 District Industries Centers (DICs) in the valley had presently been rendered headless, which include the DICs of Baramulla, Anantnag, Budgam, Kupwara, Kulgam, Shopian, and Bandipora. “The members claimed that delivering DICs to officers who are already overburdened with their own responsibilities breeds more mistrust and suspicion than it does comfort or optimism for the business owners,” he said.
He said that President Shahid Kamili, speaking on the occasion, noted that although FCIK had frequently brought up the subject of the appointment of GMs with the concerned authorities, nothing had transpired as of yet. “The meeting resolved to seek the Lt. Governor’s intervention in the matter,” he said.
