Shubam slams swashbuckling ton as J&K U-19 boys thrash HP by 6 wkts

JAMMU, Oct 20: J&K’s promising cricketer and India Under-19 opening batsman, Shubam Khajuria slammed a swashbuckling unbeaten century to help Jammu and Kashmir start the season with a positive note by inflicting a thrashing defeat over Himachal Pradesh in the BCCI’s North Zone leg of Vinoo Mankad Under-19 boys Cricket Tournament, which got underway in Haryana today.
Needing 204 runs to win in the stipulated 50 overs, J&K rode on a superb 100 plus partnership between the opening duo of Shubam Khajuria and Ahmad Banday to reach the victory target in the 40th over by losing 4 wickets, thus winning the match by 6 wickets. Shubam scored magnificent unbeaten 103 runs off 122 balls, studded with 9 fours and 5 sixes, while Ahmed Banday contributed power-packed 60 runs off 44 balls with the help of 11 boundaries and 2 sixes. Aaqib Nazir remained unbeaten on 20 runs, while Avesh Sharma chipped in with 14 runs. For Himachal Pradesh, SK Minhas and MJ Dagar claimed 1 wicket each.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Himachal scored 203 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. EC Singh was the top scorer with 70 runs, studded with 4 fours and 2 sixes, while AP Sharma remained unbeaten on 48 runs off 69 balls with the help of 3 boundaries. India Under-19 opener AK Bains scored 33 off 34 balls, studded with 5 boundaries, while SS Dhiman contributed 13 runs to the total. For J&K, speedsters Rohit Sharma and Abrar Farooq bagged 2 wickets each by conceding 51 and 29 runs in 9 and 6 overs respectively, while AM Mangnoo and Aaqib Nazir claimed 1 wicket each. Medium pacer Akash Choudhary, though remained wicket-less but emerged most economical bowler for his side, conceding just 11 runs in his 7 overs, with 2 maidens. Batting all-rounder, Paras Sharma also bowled 6 overs for 31 runs.
Meanwhile, the office bearers of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association have lauded the efforts of the players and the support staff in helping the State in beginning the season with a positive note.
