Fencing team wins Silver in Cadet C’ship

JAMMU, Dec 14: J&K fencers once again brought laurels to the Union Territory by winning Silver medal in the 17th Cadet National Fencing Championship, held at Nasik in Maharashtra.
The Sabre team boys showed excellent skill with Sabre weapons and defeated the strong opponent teams of Kerala by 45-32, competition favourite Punjab by 45-44 , Telangana team by 45 -36 but in finals, the J&K team lost to Maharashtra and settled as runner-up.
Sabre team: Suryansh Sharma, Harshit Kohli, Vatsal Gandotra and Anubhav Sharma.
The team was trained by Shottu Lal Sharma, Fencing Instructor J&K Sports Council and Ujjwal Gupta former international medallist and State awardee.
Vir Sangram Singh and Mokshi Sharma both NIS qualified coaches accompanied the team as coaches, while Anuradha was part of the team as manager.
Secretary J&K Sports Council Nuzhat Gul congratulated the medal winners and also appreciated the effort of the coaches trained by the professional fencers of the Sports Council.
The convener of J&K Amatuer Fencing Association, Rashid Ahmed Choudhary and other members also hailed the team’s performance in the championship.
