JAMMU, Dec 14: The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Centre celebrated Energy Conservation Day at Institutional Complex, Sector -3, Channi Himmat, here, today. The function was attended by engineers from various departments, organizations and senior engineers along with members of the Committee of IEI, Jammu Local Centre.
The National Energy Conservation Day is celebrated on December 14 every year since 1991 to aware people about the importance of energy as well as saving or conserving more energy by using less energy.
On this occasion, Ajay Gupta, Member, Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission, J&K and Ladakh UTs and former Chairman, The Institution of Engineers (India) was the Chief Guest whereas Dr. Sanjay Khar, former Chairman, IEI Jammu Centre presided over the function.
At the outset, Dr. Sanjay Khar presented the welcome address and introduced the relevance of the day to the audience. He spoke about the initiatives of the Institution of Engineers (India) towards sensitizing the society towards the goal of energy conservation. It was followed by keynote address by Satish Chalotra Ex-AEE, Power Development Department, J&K Government. Certified Energy Auditor, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Government of India.
A presentation contest on the theme of Energy Conservation was held between participants from Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET), after evaluation Shranney Sharma and Aakrti Verma stood first and second respectively.
Ajay Gupta, chief guest appreciated the efforts of the Jammu Local Centre for organizing this event to spread a message among the stakeholders on the need of energy conservation and initiatives being taken by Bureau of Energy Efficiency and Government of India on this.
