JAMMU, Oct 22: Taking cognizance of the complaints, the Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council has initiated an inquiry into alleged fraud committed by Kuldeep Gupta for getting Sher-e-Kashmir Award of Outstanding Sportsperson.
A three-member inquiry committee, headed by the Sports Council Joint Secretary, Siddharth Sharma, will probe the allegations and submit its report in 15 days. Sports Council members Ranjeet Kalra and Brij Bloeria are other two members of the probe panel.
Kuldeep Gupta, an employee of the Jammu Citizens’ Cooperative Bank Ltd, was given  the prestigious  Sher-e-Kashmir Award of  Outstanding Sportsperson  in  the year 2005-06 for representing  Jammu Kashmir in Tug of War National Championship held at Nasik in 2004 and participating in International Championship of Tug of War, held at Delhi in 2005.
The award, constituted by the J&K Sports Council and consisting of cash prize and a citation, was conferred upon Kuldeep Gupta in 2012.
According to the Secretary Sports Council Dileep Thussu, the inquiry has been initiated following some written complaints alleging that during the time of Nasik Championship, Kuldeep Gupta was officially present on duty in the bank while his participation in the international championship is also doubtful.
“Finding of the report will be forwarded to the Chief Minister, who is president of the Sport Council, for further action,” Mr Thussu added.
This is for the first time an inquiry has been initiated into alleged fraud committed in prestigious Sher-e-Kashmir Award for Outstanding Sportsperson.
