Happy Model shines in Children’s Science Congress

UDHAMPUR, Oct 23: In the District Level Competition two projects of Happy Model Higher Secondary School, Udhampur bagged the 1st and the 3rd prize and were selected for the State Level Competition to be held on November 16 and 17, 2013 at Srinagar.
60 projects drawn from 40 different schools were displayed in the District Level Completion.
The project which fetched first position was “No He Wa” “No Heat Waste” in an LPG stove. The innovative project uses the heat normally wasted in an LPG stove to heat circulating water and to even reduce the cooking time by” rebound-effect.” The students calculated that one can save up to Rs 4400 per annum by using their innovation. The Project was headed by Erwin Andromeda as group leader and supported by Riya Shan, Priyanka Rana, Kannav Kalsotra and Umesh Thakur, the students of Class 8th. The project was guided by Prof Mineesh Gulati. The group is planning to get their innovation patented.
The Project “Pine is Fine” was guided by school science teacher Ms Shivangi Bakshi and lead by Master Arjun Gandotra and joined by Ayush, Pranav, Anamika and Pratichi students of class 9th. The Project involved extraction of pine oil from pine needles and study of the traditional use of pine oil.
The school students were honored with medals by the Chief Education Officer at the Competition held at Little Flower Convent School, Udhampur.
The students and guides were also honoured at the special assembly in the School by the Founder Principal, Kamal Gulati, retired Maj ML Gulati and Dr Vikram.
