‘Waliv Gindav’ an effort to converge sports, culture, & tradition: Sidha

JAMMU, Dec 23: Sports Carnival-2022 ‘Waliv Gindav’ was an initiative to converge sports, culture, language and tradition and the main motive of this initiative was to involve youth in sports and cultural activities to not to fall prey to drugs and other allied social evils, so not to derail from the main stream, besides helping youth to hone and showcase their sporting skill.
This was stated by KK Sidha, Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (M) J&K during the valedictory function of the 5-day long Sports Carnival ‘Waliv Gindav’ which concluded at Jagti Sports Stadium, near here today.
He said around 1000 athletes took part in 14 sports disciplines, including four disciplines of para games.
He said that the sporting extravaganza was held in collaboration with NGOs Rising Athletes J&K and Jigar Foundation, supported by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Information, Tourism and Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.
The Relief Commissioner further said that the Relief Organisation has developed a history Wheelchair track at Jagti Sports Stadium, which is the first of its kind facility for para athletes in Jammu.
Sidha, who presided over the function, alongwith the chief guest, Bharat Singh Manhas, Secretary Academy of Art, Culture and Languages J&K distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams/players on the occasion.
The winners of Para Games including Wheelchair race, Bocca, Judo and Carrom were felicitated by Manhas and Sidha on the occasion along with the winners of Women’s Cricket, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Carrom, Badminton, Athletics etc.
Rising Women Cricket Club lifted the title trophy, while Jagti Warriors remained the runners-up, while the Badminton Junior Girls title went to Vanshika duo, while Mehvish and Muskan bagged the runners-up trophy. The pair of Neha and Nandita claimed the U-8 girls Badminton title.
In 50 meters Wheelchair race, Pradeep Singh, Gurdeep Singh and Ravi claimed Gold, Silver and Bronze medals respectively.
Earlier, famous comedians Anil Koul Chingari and Shazi entertained the gathering, which was followed by a variety of cultural items including songs, dances and skits by famous artists.
