Only 40 pc work of lane-drain, blacktopping done in Ward 27

JAMMU, Dec 24: The High Mast Light at Netaji Subhash Chander Bose Park in Mahesh Pura Chowk falling under Ward Number 27 of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) is not working for the last four years which clearly exposes the type of treatment concerned authorities are giving to a place named after the legendary freedom fighter.
Informing more in this regard, Charanjeet Kour, Councillor of the Ward said that repeated pleas to the concerned offices in this regard yielded no results.
She also said that there is a need of five more such High Mast Lights in the Ward.
In an exclusive interaction with the Excelsior, Charanjeet Kour, who politically belongs to Congress and is a first time Councillor said there are four parks in her Ward and all of these are well developed with some even having Open Air Gyms and Jhulas while lights and tiled walkways are there in all the parks and still development works at few of these parks are going on at present also.
She informed that only 40 per cent work of repair and construction of lanes and drains has been done so far in her Ward after spending Rs. 35 lakh and development in this regard is going on at a snail pace while only a few months have left for the completion of tenure of the elected body of JMC.
“Blacktopping work is also only 40 per cent complete in the Ward and there were complaints from the locals that blacktopping work was of sub-standard quality in Shopping Centre area due to which people there are not happy with us,” the Councillor claimed.
She informed that areas of her Ward include Mahesh Pura, Shopping Centre Bakshi Nagar, Bawa Lal Ji Mandir near Gurudwara Bakshi Nagar and Bakshi Nagar Gurudwara.
Kour said that 40 per cent Street Lights are pending in her Ward while among the installed ones 10 per cent are damaged and are being repaired in routine
She informed that there are eight Nallahs in the Ward including big and small ones which have not been covered so far due to lack of funds while some Nallahs even need repair as few houses adjoining to these have started sinking.
The JMC Councillor informed that stray dogs have created a lot of problems in the Ward.
“These canines not only litter here and there but also bite people and chase two wheelers and have created a wave of terror among women, children and old age people,” she continued.
Kour said that water problem is there in Mahesh Pura area of her Ward.
“No footpath work has been done in my Ward under Smart City project from Mahesh Pura Chowk to Government Medical College (GMC),” she maintained adding: “There is no community hall, no playground and no parking place for vehicles in the Ward but there is one public toilet to facilitate the people.”
The JMC Councillor also talked about sewerage problems in her Ward and said that due to the sub-standard work executed by the concerned agency, the sewerage pipes get frequently blocked at many places and the litter comes out from the manholes leaving problems for the passersby and locals living there.
“There are 25 Safai Karamcharis in my Ward but there is a requirement of 20 more and majority of available workforce with me include ladies. As a result of this shortage the cleanliness is not above average in my Ward,” she informed.
Kour said that Smart Meters have been installed in the Ward with little resentment.
She also said that almost all the residents of her Ward have made their Ayushman Cards and most of the eligible Voters have got their Voter Cards and same is the status of Domicile Certificates as there were camps in the Ward for these services.
“Though many widows, physically challenged and old age persons in the Ward are getting pension but the newly introduced rule for these pensions exclusively to Below Poverty Line people is creating problems for others,” the Councillor said.
She also said claimed hanging wires and damaged poles in the Ward and further said that monkeys create many problems in the area.
“These simians enter residential houses and look for eatables and sometimes even attack people. Sometimes we have to bust firecrackers to make them run and mostly these monkeys live at GMC Jammu building,” Kour stated.
She informed that water coolers are there in the Ward and some of these are not functioning for which none visited to for repair.
“There is encroachment by shopkeepers and residential houses by extending their portion into streets and roads,” the JMC Councillor said adding that there were reports about thefts involving iron gratings from drains in the Ward.
She claimed that many drug addicts and peddlers are active in the Ward for which the police should take a cognizance.
“Shopping Centre area in the Ward has not been regularized and there is no house numbering done in the Ward,” Kour mentioned.
