Srinagar, Jan 28: Constable Mudasir Ahmad Sheikh, also known as “Bindaas Bhaijan,” who was killed in a fight with militants in the Najibhat area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla in May last year, was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra on the eve of the 74th Republic Day.
Mudasir’s family claimed to have received a call from New Delhi on the evening of January 25 regarding the award. They said that despite their joy at receiving the award, the absence of their child made them sad.
“I am glad he received recognition for his bravery. He had a good heart and was courageous. I am glad he received the prize, but I am also sad that he is not among us. He made his community and country proud,” Shameema Begum, mother of Mudasir, said.

Mudasir’s brother Basit said that while they are happy to have won the award, they are also sad about losing him. “If the department finds it difficult to forget him, just imagine how the family members must feel. The feelings we had in relation to our sibling have resurfaced now. There is never a time we forget him,” he said.
On May 25, 2023, while taking part in an operation with the 52 RR in the Kreeri neighborhood of Baramulla, Mudasir made the ultimate sacrifice after killing three Jaish e Muhammad militants.
An official said that joint special checkpoints of police and the army were set up at several locations, including near the Shrakwara-Najibhat Crossing in the Kreeri district of Baramulla, after receiving intelligence about the movement of militants in the area (52RR).
“A chance encounter occurred when a group of militants in a silver Santro car noticed the joint party and began firing indiscriminately at it. The joint party successfully returned fire, ending the threat,” he said.
“The scene of the encounter yielded incriminating materials, a sizable cache of weapons, and explosive devices, including three AK-47 rifles, fifteen AK-47 magazines, 344 AK bullets, five Chinese grenades, and three IEDs”.
Pertinently, the Home Minister Amit Shah paid a visit to the brave Cops’ home during his first trip to the Valley.
