KATHUA, Feb 21: The residents of Housing Colony Kathua have expressed their grave resentment against the apathy of J&K Housing Board and Government towards them.
They said the Government has totally deceived them showing the dreams to develop the Housing Colony on modern lines, but nothing in this regard was done on ground. The inhabitants are facing odd situation on ground and numbers of problems are being faced by them for years together, they alleged.
The plot holders said, the Housing Board is issuing the regular notice to plot owners to construct their houses. But it has failed in providing basic infrastructure and basic amenities in the colony,. The plot owners are fed up of poor development of Housing Colony and they do not want to spend lakhs of rupees in such a way by starting construction of their residential houses,. The people who spend lakhs of rupees to construct their house are still lacking basic amenities. The movement of unwanted vehicles within colony day and night has created a public nuisance in the colony, besides, burglaries are also taking place in the colony, they added.
A deputation led by Dr BR Dubb met with Managing Director J&K Housing Board, Jammu to stop the movement of unknown vehicles in the colony and raise fencing around the colony. The deputation apprised the MD Housing Board about poor development of colony as many households having not been given the water connection and power connection. The road in sector 1, and 3 have not been blacktopped and residents are facing problems under such circumstances. The plot holders have spend lakhs of rupees in construction of houses and now they have no water and electricity connection. Due to lack of basic infrastructure and failure of Board to construct the roads gives a bad look to colony, the delegation said.
They said deep sewerage Nullah flowing in the Housing Colony is creating health hazards and animals often fall in it and receive injuries. The foul smell of sewerage Nullah has led to total insanitation in the area, they added.
They said despite meeting the authorities number of times last year regarding the settlement of problems no action has been taken till date which has added to worries of the residents of the colony.
