GDC Poonch lifts Maulana Azad Rolling Trophy in Inter-Collegiate symposium

JAMMU, Nov 11: Government Degree College lifted the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Rolling Trophy  as final of the Inter-collegiate symposium was held at MAM College, here today.
Ghulam Mustafa of  GDC Poonch, Kumarjit Chajgotra of  GDC Hiranagar and Shivangi Sharma of  GCW Parade bagged 1st, 2nd and  3rd prizes, respectively in the symposium, which was organized by IQAC of the College  to commemorate National Education Day.
Minister for Higher Education, Mohd Akbar Lone was the chief guest on the occasion while  Prof Deepsheekha Kotwal, Director of the  Centre for Women Studies, University of Jammu, Prof Zahoor-ud-Din, former Registrar, JU and Pradeep Dutta, Bureau Chief, Times Now,  were the jury members for the contest.
This event was a sequel to the preliminary round which was held on October 26,  2013 in which 35 colleges participated and 15 speakers were selected for the final round.
On the occasion,  Akbar Lone unveiled  a sketched photograph of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and also released  the college magazine ‘Trikuta’.
In his address,  Akbar Lone emphasized the role of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad in national development and encouraged the growth of Science and Technology at all levels of education. He added that education has a definite role to play in promoting world unity and global citizenship and Azad being a strong believer in democracy believed that education should be democratized.
Dr Ramesh Chander, Principal of the College, said that students should imbibe the virtues propagated by Maulana Azad and that they should follow his footsteps so as to achieve success in life.
Prof T A Kawoos, Director Colleges was also present on the occasion.
Dr Twinkle Suri, Coordinator IQAC, highlighted the role of IQAC  in up-gradation of education at all levels for overall development of the institution.
The function was graced by various Principals and eminent academicians from Higher Education. Dr Avinash Gupta, president CTA was also present on the occasion.
The programme was anchored by Prof  Banpreet Kour and Prof M  K Mussa.
