This has reference to the news item ‘Create awareness about horticulture schemes’ DE Nov 12.
Horticulture is emerging as one of vital components of State’s economy and this sector needs to be further groomed. To do so, it is essential that the stakeholders are fully involved in this endeavour. The involvement process will require that the schemes launched by the Government from time to time reach down the stakeholders. These people need to be educated about pros and cons of the schemes.
The horticulture experts believe that there is tremendous scope for horticulture if it explored fully. At present, horticulture sector is infancy and it will take some time before it emerges vibrant. It is not only the fruit and vegetable growers who have to come forward but also the marketing strategists. To enable the farmers sell their produce, it is essential that the Government finds suitable markets. Otherwise farmers suffer terrible losses and it is a waste of time and money to get involved in it.
