Umar, Asif, Sahil help J&K to dominate day-2

JAMMU, Nov 16: Talented speedster Umar Nazir bowled with decent pace, nagging line and teasing length to restrict formidable Assam to 149/5, before the batting trio of skipper Asif Khan and lower-order batsmen Sahil Sharma and Amir Aziz helped J&K to score a good total of 371 runs on an even strip in the match of the CK Nayudu Under-25 Cricket Tournament at GGM Science College, Hostel Ground, here today.
Earlier, resuming from an overnight score of 219/6, J&K rode on superb knocks of 62, 61 and 41 runs by Asif Khan, Sahil Sharma and Amir Aziz to score a decent total of 271 runs. Asif hit 9 boundaries in his knock, while Sahil and Amir smashed 6 fours each in their knocks, besides hitting 2 and one six respectively. Mehjoor Ali Sofi also chipped in with unbeaten 11 runs off 24 balls. M R Das was the pick of the bowlers for Assam, who scalped 5 important wickets by conceding 133 runs in his 34 overs, while RD Sonowal bagged 3 wickets. Krishna Das and SA Das also shared a wicket each.
In reply, Assam were struggling at 149/5, with Brahma and RL Das unbeaten on 25 and 32 respectively, when the stumps were drawn today. Skipper AS Sinha (31) and Sajid Khan (27) were the other contributors. At one point of time, Assam were in dire straits at 87/5 as Umar Nazir wrecked havoc, who captured 4 wickets by giving away 38 runs in his 15 overs, while Mehjoor Sofi also claimed one wicket.
