JAMMU, Nov 18: Lack of wisdom shown by the team management and the support staff, coupled with lackluster effort by the players on day-4 and the final day of the match today, helped Assam to earn a draw in a match of CK Nayudu Under-25 Cricket Tournament which was (90-10) in favour Jammu and Kashmir at the end of day-3 yesterday at GGM Science College Hostel Ground, here.
The team management did not enforce follow-on even after gaining a huge 178-run lead over their rivals in the first innings, with speedster Umar Nazir in a devastating form, which made J&K to just earn a draw in the match which was 90 percent in their kitty, after three sessions on day-3.
However, what was more astonishing was that J&K team skipper Asif Khan, who played good knocks in both the matches played here, agreed to the proposal of calling off the match 7 overs before the stipulated time. For that matter, the management, or the skipper who are unaware of the fact that ‘Cricket is the Game of Glorious Uncertainties’ hardly deserve their place in taking the decisions.
Earlier, resuming from an overnight score of 40/2, Assam batsmen RG Hazarika and Sunzow Brahma played splendid knocks of 84 and 65 runs respectively to make a partnership of 150 runs between them before Hazarika was trapped LBW by speedster Sahil Sharma at the team’s total of 190 runs. Sahil accounted for another wicket in his next over, clean bowling Brahma to make it 191/4 in 60.5 overs to give J&K some hope of an outright victory. Then J&K got another wicket in Sajid Khan and it was the last wicket of Assam innings to be dismissed. For J&K, Sahil Sharma and Mehjoor Ali Sofi bagged 2 wickets each, while Umar Nabi claimed one.
J&K got 3 points by virtue of first innings lead, while Assam got one.
