SRINAGAR, Nov 20: Taking strong note of the statement issued by Chief Engineer of Power Development Department (PDD), that ‘the power curtailment schedule will be implemented in letter and spirit in the Valley ahead of winter’, Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) said it won’t hesitate in calling consumers to stop paying electricity bills.
PDD announced a power curtailment schedule of over 57 hours a week, which KEA felt that it was PDD’s arrogant and anti-people statements and schedules. “Kashmir with all its tragedies and depression did not need the dictatorial announcement of said Chief Engineer and prayers for hibernation,” KEA said, adding that PDD Engineers in the Valley are up against its own people whom they are punishing and find refuge for the incompetence, corruption and mismanagement which is wide spread and rampant in PDD.
Reacting to the comments made by Chief Engineer that ‘the curtailment hours could be reduced where it would be observed that there was a reduction in AT&C losses’, KEA said it was the incompetence and in- efficiency of PDD officials who are drawing fat salaries from the department and they should not punish general public.
Accusing the Government for having warm shelter in Jammu and making the life of people miserable here, KEA said most of the thefts that occur are both in and around the security camps and people of the Valley are paying through high tariff and power curtailment for the luxury of these chosen few. “PDD itself has not been able to take any action against these thefts,” KEA added.
