JAMMU, Nov 20: Over 200 retired employees of State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) bid to march towards Civil Secretariat was foiled by police which crated a barricade in the way and did not allow the protestors to proceed ahead during a protest demonstration here demanding clearance of their dues and arrears.
The employees JKSRTC, who opted for the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS), took out the protest march from the Press Club area towards the Civil Secretariat in support of their demand for clearance of dues and arrears.
The employees were prevented by police from marching towards the Civil Secretariat, leading to a minor clash.
“We will continue our protest till our demands are met, we want the State Government to pay us all the dues and arrears of VRS,” JKSRTC president Dev Raj Bali, said.
The protesters raised slogans against the Government for not clearing their dues of cost of living allowance and also demanded implementation of Sixth Pay Commission. Bali appealed to the Transport Minister and chairman of JKSRTC to consider the genuine demands of the employees.
The rally besides Mr Bali was led by S Surinder Singh general secretary of VRS Union of SRTC.
The protestors raising slogans against the Government, Finance Department and Transport authorities demanded immediate redressal of their grievances.
They accused the authorities for not releasing their pending 126 slabs of COLA arrears w.e.f from January 2006 along with leave salary, ex-gratia, grant of pending arrears w.e.f 1999 amounting to Rs 30, 16, 10, 736. 00.
They said there is a clear violation of Government Order No 218 F of 2007 dated 16-07-2007 by the MDs of all PSUs due to which 472 VRS/GHS employees of SRTC suffered a lot over the years. They accused the Government as well as MDs of PSUs of harassing the employees.
They demanded immediate redressal of demands including release of 126 slabs of COLA from 2006 along with leave salary, gratuity, exgratia and pending arrears from 1999. They also demanded implementation of 6th Pay Commission from January 2006.
