JAMMU, Apr 19: International footballer from Jammu, Arun Malhotra today urged the J&K Bank and Police Department to come forward for establishing a well-structured women’s football team in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Many persons have been cynical about women’s football in the recent debacle in senior national women’s football. I thought it is better to look at the positive aspect of the game which would enhance the graph of success in J&K women’s football,” he said.
In order to broaden the sports culture among women folk, all stakeholders have to take some initiatives to provide a sports atmosphere for women folk in the Union Territory, he mentioned.
Since JK Bank and police were among the first to establish a men’s football team they should now take initiative to frame a women’s football team to fulfill aspirations of women sports persons in J&K. I urge J&K Bank to start an exclusive academy and football team for women. This will be the biggest boost to encourage girl children to take sports as a profession as well, Arun added.
Likewise, J&K Police should also frame a women football team so that women sports persons could secure their jobs to pursue their ambition to be a footballer.
Being an analyst and part of the national football team, he said that the major reason for the success of European football is development at the grassroot level. “All top European clubs have set up football academies which encourage children to get started at an early age,” he said.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration in collaboration with the private sector needs to open more academies and try to liaise with Indian top football clubs to help them set up the academies.
Further, the Government must come up with new incentives and schemes for providing jobs to the best women footballers. If any women footballer participates in Santosh trophy she must be given some reservation in professional colleges and also in employment, Arun added.
