JAMMU : Asserting that the situation along the 198 kilometre stretch of international border is peaceful, Inspector General BSF, Jammu Frontier, S S Tomar today said the Border Security Force is soon going to raise embankment from Akhnoor Sector to Kathua to secure the local populace.
“To secure the local population residing along the international border from falling in the range of firing from across the border at the time of tension on the border, the BSF soon will be raising an embankment covering the entire international border from Akhnoor to Kathua,” Mr Tomar told reporters at the sidelines of a function here this morning.
The IG said that the embankment will be 135 feet wide and 10 metre high, which will be constructed by the Central Public Works Department in assistance with the BSF.
“The land will be acquired from 122 villages along the border in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts with the help of the state government,” he said and added that the project is in final stage and will commence soon.
“We will also be discussing the matter of raising embankment with the Pakistan Rangers,” he said adding that the embankment will secure the people in the bordering belts to work safely in the fields located close to the fence.
Mr Tomar however, said that the situation at present is peaceful and no incident of any ceasefire violation or infiltration bid has been reported.
Pertinent to mention here that the guns fall silent after BSF and Pak Rangers held a flag meeting on October 29 at Octroi Post in R S Pura Sector.
