Inter-school Basketball tournament begins at BOMIS

JAMMU, Apr 28: The two-day inter-school Basketball tournament 2022-23 kicked off at Birla Open Minds International School (BOMIS) Jammu with zeal and enthusiasm in the School premises in which 17 teams and more than 200 students of different schools are participating.
Deputy Director Sports Authority of India Training Center, J&K (UT) Nadeem was the chief guest of the inaugural function. The first tournament of the season 2023-2024 was themed ‘JP Inter- School Basketball Tournament’ is being organized to encourage the youngsters towards a healthy and positive lifestyle.
All the players took an oath to play the game with true sportsman spirit and to uphold the values of team spirit and fair play. The School basketball arena wore a festive look with colorful flags and participants looking equally excited, bubbling with energy to encompass everyone in their celebration of sports and sportsmanship.
The series of events started with ‘Saraswati Vandhana’ followed by the dance of talented students of BOMIS Jammu. The host School students presented the welcome address, marking the beginning of the event. After that School Principal, Aparana Kohli felicitated the chief guest and welcomed the guests and all the spectators.
The tournament was declared open by the chief guest. In his address, the chief guest highlighted the importance of sports and said that games and sports have the power to change the world. He said that sportsmanship inspires one to be a good human being.
“Schools forge champions. Apart from developing sportsman spirit, sports also help in developing humanitarian values. It binds the society and ensures mutual respect,” he added.
The day witnessed a series of competitive matches played between different schools. In Pool A, a total of four matches were played on day-1. The boys final match and girls match will be played tomorrow.
In the end, the School Principal extended thanks to the guests for gracing the occasion and encouraged the students with her kind words.
