JAMMU, Nov 26: Government has directed all the District Development Commissioners/implementing agencies that the use of word donation on the plaques/sign boards of Constituency Development Funds (CDF) works/facilities shall be done away with and substituted by the work “construction under the CDF of MLA/MLC.
This was stated by Balvinder Singh, convener, Sangarsh RTI Movement during a press conference here today.
“I filed an RTI with Planning and Development Department, Civil Secretariat about the use of the word donation by MLA/MLC on doing any work for the benefit of the common masses”, he informed.
In reply to the RTI, the Planning and Development Department, Civil Secretariat has sent an order of the copy to the Sangarsh RTI Movement, which reads that all the District Development Commissioners/ implementing agencies that the use of word donation on the plaques/sign boards of CDF works/facilities shall be done away with and substituted by the word “construction under the CDF of MLA/MLC” in respect of ambulances, vehicles, water coolers, etc installed in respect of street lights, water pumps, etc while providing such basic facilities to meet the locally felt needs of the people.
Singh taking serious exception to the use of word ‘donated by MLA/MLC’ said that “we the people after paying tax have to live or survive on the donations of somebody”.
He said that the people elect their representatives and make the politicians to work as their fund managers not the donors.
Donation can only be given from ones personal belongings and out of his own earnings and for purely the purpose of charity, he said, adding that the use of the work donation by MLA/MLC is not charity at all as the work they do in favour of the people out of their CDF actually belongs to the people, who pay tax to the Government.
