ANANTNAG, May 9: BJP Govt is drawing `sadistic pleasure’ out of a deliberate burden put on poor people on account of unprecedented price hike especially on LPG, electricity besides downsizing supply of ration besides withdrawing other privileges from BPL, AAY and other poor section of the people thereby making their survival more difficult.
The labour class and other job card holders whose earnings used to generate from local area developmental works have also been rendered jobless due to the tendering process of the works sanctioned and executed at block level aiming to directly benefit the contractors and other concerned agencies.
Former JKPCC president GA Mir made these comments during his tour of Panchayat halqas Dongwari, Manzmov, Tangloo, Check Wangund, Dalwach, Shistergam, Hiller Shahabad, Chango, Sadiwara, etc in South Kashmir.
Mir met scores of peoples’ delegations including Sarpanchs, Panchs, labour class and other rural job card holders in these Panchayat Halaqas and received feedback with regard to the ground situation.
Mir said people are robbed of their rights including democratic, besides the tall claims by BJP Govt are contrary to truth leading to the disappointment and restlessness and expressed serious concern over the pathetic condition of poor people who are confronted with hardships on account of purchase of LPG, downsizing of ration quota, electric bills and other subsequent developmental issues concerning them including rising joblessness.
He blamed BJP Govt over drawing sadistic pleasure out of the burden put on common people and expressed serious concern over downsizing supply of ration. During UPA regime 11 Kgs of ration was supplied to BPL & AAY category/person, but the BJP Govt downsized the supply to mere 5 Kgs/person, which is not sufficient, ultimately consumers have to buy ration from market to feed themselves that too on higher rates.
Mir said power bills have gone much higher. Earlier, consumers (BPL and AAY) category used to pay Rs350 PM, now they are forced to pay 950 PM coupled with erratic supply of electricity. He said through hike on LPG, electricity, downsizing of ration quota, besides price hike on edible oils and other essential items, the BJP Govt is trying to recover the losses, which is questionable leading to the discontent and disenchantment among the people.
He asked the Govt to abolish tendering system in terms of developmental works at block level to ensure that labour class and job card holders are able to earn their livelihood with dignity.
