JKP emerges overall champion in wrestling

JAMMU, Nov  29: 6th Senior State Indian Style Wrestling Championship for men organized by  J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association in collaboration with J&K State Sports Council under the over all supervision of President  J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association Shiv Kumar Sharma and General Secretary of the association Bansi Lal Tidyal concluded at  Dewan Mandir Akhara  Jammu.
Director General Youth Services and Sports, Navin Aggarwal was the chief guest on the occasion who distributed medals and merit certificates to the winners and runner-up teams. Treasurer Indian Style Wrestling Association of India Shiv Kumar Sharma presided over the function, while general secretary J&K Olympics Association Prof Ashutosh Sharma was the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Aggarwal said that sports activities provide a common platform to the budding sportspersons to exhibit their talent and called upon the wrestlers to take part in such competitions for their physical and mental fitness.
He said that Government was committed to promote the sports activities in every nook and corner of the State, adding that sports activities are pivotal for channelizing the energy of youth.
The overall championship went to J&K Police team by winning 23 bouts and Jammu District emerged the runners-up by winning 16 bouts. Total 54 wrestlers participated in the event with eight wrestlers from four districts of Kashmir province.
