JAMMU, May 14: Road Safety XI defeated Organizers XI in the inaugural match of Ravi Kant Gupta Memorial (RKGM) Veteran T-20 Cricket tournament, at Parade Ground here today.
The tournament was inaugurated by J&K Ranji Trophy legend Randhir Singh Jamwal and other senior cricketer of Jammu Sumeet Sharma in sweet memory of a very senior and renowned cricketer of J&K late Ravi Kant Gupta, who was a great spinner and represented J&K in many Ranji Trophy matches.
Vijay Sabarwal, Desh Rattan Dubey, Sanjay Sharma, Rajat Kant Gupta, Harsh Nayyar, Kapil Dev Mahajan and Advocate Rajesh Jaitly along with members of Parade Sports Association and Laxmi Cricket Club were present on the occasion.
Winning toss, Organizers XI chose to bat and made 177 runs for 6. Sameer Khajuria (skipper) was the top scorer. He made 61 runs with the help of 4 sixes and 4 boundaries and remained not out. Vikram Dogra scored 38 runs, Anshuman Sharma 21, Guru Pratap and Dhruv made 7 runs each while Pardeep Bali and Rajesh contributed 5 runs each to the total. For Road safety XI, Sandeep took 2 wickets while Hamid and Parveen scalped 1 wicket each.
In response, Road Safety XI chased the target in 18 overs and won the match by 8 wickets. Farooq Ahmed was the top scorer. He scored 102 runs with 11 boundaries and 6 sparkling sixes. Vijay Singh made 42 runs, Shindi Kumar 16 and Deepak Kumar scored 7 runs. For Organizers XI, Vikram Dogra was the only successful bowler as he took one wicket.
Farooq Ahmed of Road Safety XI was adjudged as Man of the Match.
Tomorrow, Dogra Warriors will lock horns with Rotary XI.
