Bowlers wreck havoc; Reshi, Rasool slam thunderous tons as J&K humiliates Kerala

JAMMU, Dec 1: Opener Adil Reshi and skipper Parvez Rasool slammed cracking tons, before the medium fast bowling trio of Mohd Muddasir, Samiullah Beigh and consistent Ramdayal Punia wrecked havoc by plotting collapse of Kerala team for paltry 129 runs to suffer a shocking defeat by a huge margin, while chasing a target of 413 runs set by J&K in Ranji Trophy Group-C match at GGM Science College Hostel Ground, here.
Earlier, resuming from an overnight score of 111/2, J&K’s unbeaten  batsmen Adil Reshi and Bandeep Singh started in style, hitting series of boundaries from the word go to take the score to 166 runs with a brisk pace in 38.3 overs, before Bandeep was dismissed by left-arm spinner CP Shahid at his individual score of 31 runs. Then skipper Parvez Rasool alongwith overnight batsman Adil Reshi made a partnership of 171 runs to take the score to 377 runs before declaring their innings to set a target of 413 runs for the rivals in something around two sessions. Adil remained unbeaten on brilliant 160 runs off 190 balls, studded with 18 boundaries and one six, while Parvez scored magnificent century (100*) off 101 balls, with the help of 11 cracking boundaries.
Chasing a mammoth target of 413 runs, Kerala batsmen failed to negotiate the length and speed of the J&K’s fast bowling trio of Samiullah Beigh, Mohd Muddasir and Ramdayal Punia to bundle out for 129 runs in 41.4 overs, thus suffered a humiliating defeat. Sachin Baby (38), AM Hegde (32), Anthal PU (23) and V Jagadeesh (17) were the main scorers. For J&K, Mohd Muddasir was the pick of the bowlers, who scalped 5 important wickets to take his first 5-wicket haul in Ranji trophy by conceding 31 runs in 9.4 overs, while Samiullah Beigh bagged 3/47 in his 12 overs and Ramdayal claimed 2/28 in his 11 overs.
Meanwhile, Adil Reshi, who slammed a marathon ton while talking to media persons said that the excellence of the trio of Parvez Rasool, Ian Dev Singh and Shubam Khajuria at the higher levels has inspired the team and attributed the back to back victory by the team to this inspiration.
He said Rasool’s selection in Team India, Ian’s marathon ton in Duleep trophy semifinal and Shubam’s splendid show in Under-19 Indian team has built the confidence level of the players and the team is playing as a cohesive unit.
Imran Haroon hits marathon century
JAMMU, Dec 1: Imran Haroon scored unbeaten 177 runs in the ongoing CK Nayudu trophy Plate Group-B match against Haryana, being played at Barwala in Haryana.
Earlier, following on after scoring 208 runs in their first innings against a mammoth total of 480 runs by Haryana, J&K rode on a splendid knock of 177 not out by opening batsman Imran Haroon, scored a decent total of 353 runs to set a target of 82 runs for the rival team. Haroon struck 21 boundaries and 4 sixes in 270-ball knock. Amie Aziz (41), Aamir Sofi (33) and Divya Pratap (23) were the other notable contributors.
In reply, chasing 82 runs to win, Haryana were 39 for no loss at stumps on day-3 today, with openers S Budhwar on (18) and Ajay Duhan on (14).
Chhattisgarh 201/6 against J&K
in U-19 cricket
JAMMU, Dec 1: Chhattisgarh scored 201 for 6 on day-1 of the Cooch Behar Under-19 boys Plate-A tournament at Raipur in Chhattisgarh today.
Earlier, batting first, Chhattisgarh openers Atul Pal (41) and RR Choubey (43) made an opening partnership of 91 runs, before Aquib Nazir struck twice to claim both of them at 94/2. The other contributors for Chhattisgarh were Shakeeb Ahmed (35) AJ Mandal (25) and AJ Yadav (19). For J&K, Paras Sharma was pick of the bowlers who took 3 important wickets by conceding just 16 runs in his 21 overs, while Aquib Nazir claimed 2 and speedster Akash Choudhary picked one.
