Chennai, June 19: Asian champion, Aditya Mehta struggled to defeat junior snooker champion Laxman Rawat by three frames to two in the best-of-five frames league phase match in the Kences Constructions – ASCA International Snooker Championship 2012.
The first four frames were well fought by both the champions. The deciding frame was a ding-dong battle in the beginning when both the players potted 2 reds with black gaining 16 points each. Laxman tried to snooker behind the green ball after potting a red, but he failed to touch. This was the first advantage for Aditya where he claimed 2 foul and miss. The turning point of the match is when Laxman tried a red in the right top cushion and again failed. Aditya took 2 reds with black and gained another 16 points. Finally, Laxman went for a ‘do or die’ pot attempt, where his failure was capitalized well by Aditya who added another 20 points to his score. Laxman finally conceded with brown, blue, pink and black balls on the table when he needed 2 fouls. (UNI)
