Six persons rescued from Chenab

REASI, Dec 5: Six persons trapped in Chenab near Baradari bridge were rescued after one and half hour long daredevil attempts.
Report said that a truck loaded with sand was trapped in deep-water channel and could not find way out. On the receipt of information, Deputy Commissioner directed NHPC to stop release of water from dam and rushed to the spot along with ACR, Tehsildar, Naib Tehsildar and SHO.
The team of officers along with three local rafters after making several daredevil attempts reached the trapped truck. Thereafter rapt was pressed into service and all the six trapped persons were brought out one by one.
The DC, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary along with DySP Mohd Shafi and Incharge Police Post Talwara went inside the water up to the trapped truck and rescued the persons. The DC, while appreciating the efforts of three rafters and Incharge Police Post Talwara, informed that a bravery award will be recommended in their favour for showing exemplary courage in saving the lives.
Those rescued have been identified as Sanjay Kumar, son of Munshi Ram, Bittu, son of Saran Singh, Ashok Kumar, son of Harnam Singh, Sanjay Singh, son of Wazir Singh, Ranjeet Kumar, son of Makhan Lal, Rattan, son of Balak Ram.
The rafters who played key role in rescuing the trapped persons are Vikas Sharma, Dheeraj Sharma and Nazir Wani.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner has asked the police to lodge an FIR for irresponsible mining in night hours and District Officer Mining Department has been summoned along with details of mining lease and operational conditions for taking action and to avoid any untoward incident in future.
