Jammu, June 4: Samanyu Cyrish and Abhirath Thappa won the Boys doubles title Antekshika and Mehreen Kour emerged champions in girls title on the concluding day of the Jammu District Under-18 Boys/Girls Lawn Tennis Championship organized at Maulana Azad Stadium here.
The championship was organised by the J&K Tawn Tennis Association (JKLTA) in collaboration with J&K Sports Council.
Samanyu Cyrish and Abhirath Thappa duo defeated Ranveer Choudhary and Saksham Amla in straight sets, with a score of 6-3, 6-2 while Antekshika and Mehreen Kour defeated Myra Vashisht and Tanishka Thusoo in straight sets, with a score of 6-1, 6-3.
In the Boys singles event, Samanyu Cyrish defeated Ranveer Choudhary in straight sets, with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
Antekshika emerged victorious in the Girls singles event, defeating Myra Vashishth with a score of 6-2, 6-3.
An exhibition match of Mixed Doubles was also held, which would be included as a regular feature in future events.
Manager of Indoor Complex M A Stadium, Suraj Bhan Singh was the Chief Guest on the concluding day of the championship.
Speaking on the occasion, Singh appreciated the efforts of the Jammu Kashmir Lawn Tennis Association for its determination to take this sport to every nook and corner of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir. He also congratulated the winners and wished them success in future events too.
According to JKLTA President Captain Murti Gupta, it was the three-day event, wherein more than 50 participants from across the Jammu district took part in the tournament and showcase their talent.
The presence of a large number of parents on the concluding day boosted the morale of the players, he added.
It was a successful championship with impressive performances from the players and encouraging support from the audience.
