2nd Kashmir Open Chess C’ship concludes

SRINAGAR, June 16: The 2nd Kashmir Open International FIDE Rating Chess championship concluded here today.
The championship was organized by the “The Kashmir Chess Club, Srinagar” in the Indoor Hall, Polo Ground, Srinagar in collaboration with All J&K Chess Association and under the aegis of J&K Sports Council from June 10 to 15.
Over 130 players participated including players from Russia. 75 entries from Jammu and Kashmir in this event. 48 Fide rated players and 72 unrated players participated in this event from all over the country.
Hoor Fatima (Born in 2019) was the youngest player and Sibtain Hussain (Born in 1961) was the oldest player into the tournament. Out of 130 participants, 21 were the female players. The six day long tournament offered prize money of Rs two lakh in Indian currency, apart from trophies to several age category children.
The top seed of the event was Khudovekov Stanislav from Russia with a FIDE Rating 1967. Sumit Grover (Jammu and Kashmir) with a rating of 1959 and Samrat Ghorai (West Bengal) with rating 1902 are the 2nd and 3rd seed of the event respectively and they both belong to India.
Sumit Grover became the champion of 2nd Kashmir Open International FIDE Rating Chess Tournament, Srinagar and was awarded the Champion Trophy along with cash of Rs 31,000. Hasan Ashraf from Uttar Pradesh secured second place in final and he was awarded Runner up Trophy along with cash award of Rs. 21,000 and Pradeep Tiwari of Delhi secured 3rd place in final.
District Development Council Vice Chairperson Bilal Ahmad Bhat distributed cash awards and trophies to the winners in presence of many other senior dignitaries.
