Jammu, Dec 9: Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu today called for greater participation of students in various extra-curricular activities, saying that it is imperative for the overall growth of youngsters.
Speaking at the a Prize Distribution Function of the “Display Your Talent” 2013-14, an Inter-Collegiate/Departmental extravaganza conducted by the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu, Prof Ishar said that youth have made significant strides in the field of  art, culture and sports and brought laurels to the University.
The Vice-Chancellor complemented the participants for taking active role in various activities and carving out a niche for themselves.
Prof Ishar was the chief guest, while Lida Singh, was the guest of honnour.
Prof Pankaj.K Srivastava, Dean Students Welfare, delivered the welcome address.
Rimpla Kumari from the Department of Commerce, University of Jammu, bagged Prof YB Singh Memorial Trophy for overall best performance in Fine Arts.
Govt Women College, Gandhi Nagar clinched Dr Jagmohan Singh Memorial Trophy for the Best Team in Debating Contest as well as Prof Santosh Sharma Memorial Trophy for the Best Team in Theatrical Events.
Govt Women College, Gandhi Nagar, was awarded Vijay Verma Memorial Trophy and Dr J R Sharma Memorial Trophy for overall Best Performance in Music.
A special Trophy instituted by the University of Jammu in Memory of Late Dr Surinder Sharma, Assistant Registrar of the University, for the best team in Quiz was bagged by Department of History, University of Jammu.
Diksha Kumari from Govt College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, was adjudged as the Overall Best Student of the Display Your Talent Contest and was awarded Pankaj Mohan Bhatia Memorial Trophy.
Award of Appreciation was also presented to Govt Degree College, Ramban, for their outstanding performance in Folk Dance in “Display Your Talent” 2013-14.
The overall Championship Trophy was lifted by Govt Women College, Gandhinagar, Jammu whereas Govt Women College, Parade bagged the Runners-up.
Mementos were awarded to Apoorva Jamwal, Polina Singh Kala, Khasbu Sharma, Abhinandan Singh and MIME Team including Mir Maria Abdul, Anku Rajput, Sheriya Gupta, Hempreet Kaur and Neesha Pandita, for their outstanding performance in the 29th North Zone Inter-University Youth Festival held at Babasahib Bhimrao Ambedkar, University, Lucknow. Mementos were also presented to Dr Lalit Sen Department of Com Science & I T, Dr Malthi Rajput, Assistant Professor, Govt Women College Gandhi Nagar, Jammu and Kulbushan Thakur from Department of Students Welfare, who escorted the Jammu University Cultural Team in 29th North Zone Inter-University Youth Festival held at Babasahib Bhimrao Ambedkar, University, Lucknow.
Special mementos were presented to Prof N K Tripathi, Prof Jasbir Singh, Prof Shailendra Singh, Sh. Vijay Atri, Dr Prakash Chand Anathal, Dr. Mohd Monir Alam, Apoorva Jamwal, Secretary, Students Cultural Council, Aenny Mattoo, Romika Devi and Rahul Sharma, Joint Secretaries.
Formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof Neeru Sharma, Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee.
Among others Prof JPS Joorel, president, JUTA, Prof V D Singh, Director, DDE,Prof. N. K. Tripathi, Former DSW, Prof Jasbir Singh, Provost Hostel, Dr Kavita Suri, Dr Prikisht Singh Manhas, Associate Dean (SW), Dr Yudhbir Singh, Assistant Dean (SW), Dr Abdul Rashid Manhas, Assistant Dean (SW),  Members of the Campus Cultural Committee, Students Cultural Council, Faculty Members, Officers, Staff, Research Scholars, Students of the University Principals and teachers of the Affiliated College were also present.
