JAMMU, Dec 11: General Officer Commanding (GOC) 25 Infantry Division Maj Gen VP Singh said today that troops were on high alert along the Line of Control (LoC) in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch to thwart the possibility of any infiltration attempt from the Line of Control (LoC).
In a brief chat with media on the sidelines of Nangi Tekri Day celebrations in Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district today, Maj Gen Singh said: “Army was maintaining high alert along the LoC though the situation was quite peaceful at present. Any infiltration attempt by Pakistan on the LoC will be foiled’’.
He added that Indian Army stands for peace and was maintaining it on the LoC. However, if Pakistan Army or the militants made any attempt to vitiate peaceful atmosphere, we will not allow them to succeed.
Admitting that infiltration attempts did take place during winter, Maj Gen Singh, however, maintained that so far with the onset of winter no major intrusion bid has been reported on the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch districts.
“We have not observed any major infiltration attempt by the militants on the LoC during past few days. The LoC is cal. However, if any infiltration attempt was made by Pakistan, we will thwart it,’’ the GOC said.
He also referred to Nangi Tekri Day victory on this day in 1971 and lauded the role of Army officers and jawans, who fought the war and won the area for India even after sacrificing a number of lives.
He said the Pakistan Army has targeted Nangi Tekri several time and added that they would never succeed in their plan.
It was on this day that Indian Army had in 1971 wrested Nangi Tekri from Pakistan and unfurled tricolor there. Since then Nangi Tekri Victory Day is observed every year by the Army.
Maj Gen Singh paid tributes to Army officers and jawans, who had sacrificed their lives while fighting with Pakistani troops but won the battle.
It may be mentioned here that Pakistan Army had made repeated attempts on the LoC in Nangi Tekri area in Mendhar sector of Poonch district to infiltrate militants into the Indian territory. The troops guarding the LoC in Nangi Tekri and adjoining areas have foiled the militant designs.
Troops had reports that Pakistan would try to push militants inside Jammu and Kashmir from LoC and IB ahead of Parliament and Assembly elections next year. There has been presence of the militants on Pakistan side of LoC and IB. The militants would try to exploit foggy weather conditions.
The Army has already installed sophisticated equipments to ensure visibility even during foggy weather conditions in December and January along the LoC and IB to ensure zero infiltration on the LoC during winter.
