JAMMU, July 5: A scientific meeting was organized by Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Gurgaon on the theme “Jaundice: newborn to young child”, here today.
The meeting was organized in collaboration with Jammu chapter of Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) and Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu.
Dr Shivani Deswal (Clinical lead and Senior Consultant, Pediatric Gastroenterologist and Transplant Hepatologist) and Dr Bilal (Senior Consultant and Incharge PICU) came from Gurgaon and interacted through real life case based clinical scenarios with Pediatricians, Pediatric Surgeons and Neonataologists from Jammu, Kathua and Samba.
The scientific meeting was aimed at spreading awareness on different causes of jaundice in children and how to approach difficult patients with timely referral to a superspecialist team providing medical and surgical treatment including liver transplant in children. It was supported by IAP Jammu (president Dr GS Saini, secretary Dr Sanjeev K Digra) and GMC Jammu.
Dr Deswal also announced her monthly OPD at Narayana Clinic, Gandhi Nagar (Jammu) starting from September 1st. She will be available for OPD on Thursday of every month (12 to 4 pm) after her return from London Kings College Hospital on completion of advanced training programme in liver care in children.
The announcement of monthly OPD by Dr Shivani Deswal at Jammu is a much needed initiative as children in Jammu province had no access to specialized Gastro and Liver child specialist till now and Dr Deswal is an expert in endoscopy, refractory constipation, liver & pancreas problems, chronic diarrhea, recurrent stomach pain, Celiac, cow milk protein allergy, food allergies, and jaundice in newborn and older children.
With World renowned surgeon Dr Sanjay Goja, Dr Shivani has expertise in managing very sick children needing liver transplant with more than 95 % success rate.
