JAMMU, July 10: As a run up to the next year’s Lok Sabha election and to further consolidate party base from booth to constituency level, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held Core Group (CG) meeting at party Headquarters here this afternoon.
According to party sources, the meeting was also a follow up to recent meeting of North Zone BJP convened by Party national president, J P Nadda at New Delhi which was attended by senior leaders from J&K also.
Sources said the meeting threadbare deliberated over the prevailing political situation in the UT as well as country and the public welfare decisions taken by both LG as well as Narendra Modi Government at Centre and their positive impact on the forthcoming elections.
While the Core Committee was upbeat over the recent announcement of LG regarding allotment of five marlas of land to landless people in the UT and 10 kgs of additional ration at subsidized rates to priority households, it also decided to forcefully counter the opposition narrative mainly created by National Conference (NC) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The Core Group also accused these parties of misleading the people by negating the good work of the Government.
The meeting decided to launch a house to house Abhiyan (campaign) in both regions of J&K to take the message of PM Narendra Modi’s good governance and apprise them of the welfare schemes and new projects launched for the development of J&K and welfare of its people especially those living in rural and remote belts which were hitherto neglected during last 70 years of successive Congress and NC Governments.
The meeting was chaired by the BJP UT president, Ravinder Raina and it was attended by party co convener, Ashish Sood, party general secretary (org) Ashok Koul, MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, national secretary, Dr Narinder Singh, former Deputy CMs, Dr Nirmal Singh and Kavinder Gupta, general secretary, Dr D K Manyal, former Minister, Sat Sharma, chief spokesperson, Sunil Sethi, party vice president, Shakti Parihar, party spokespersons, G L Raina and Dr Darakshan Andrabi.
Union Minister, Dr Jitendra Singh and party general secretaries, Sunil Sharma and Vibodh Gupta who are also the members of Core Group could not attend the meeting due to their preoccupation, sources said.
They said the Core Group has decided to strengthen the party at booth, Mandal and constituency levels in both regions of J&K as it will contest all the five Lok Sabha seats in the UT. As a run up the elections and further strengthen its base the meeting decided that during its UT wide campaign special stress will be given for making contact with key voters.
Sources said, BJP has many achievements to highlight especially after the abrogation of controversial Article 370 in J&K on August 5, 2019. Besides, the developmental projects and public welfare schemes the party claims that BJP Government’s out of box decisions like allotment of five marlas of land to landless people in the UT, construction of two lakh houses for homeless and announcement of additional 10 kgs of ration to priority households are historic decisions, sources added.
Sources said the narrative created by opposition parties in this regard as well as their opposition to Modi Government’s every public welfare measure needs to be sternly countered and party decided that in its Jansamarak Abhiyan it will take opposition parties head on.
The Core Group was also of the opinion that the out of box decisions taken by Modi Government to increase national pride and give India a world recognition has been the greatest achievement of this Government which no leader in last 70 years could do, sources said, adding the need of hour is to educate the people about the same.
Sources said the Core Group also decided that the roadmap for the elections will be chalked out as in near future party will hold meetings of office bearers and senior leaders in this regard.
Sources said the party has also decided to hold meeting with LG in near future on some important public issues like the decision of prepaid electricity charges, regularization of daily wagers, temporary employees and other issues faced by common man like pension for widows and old aged persons etc.
The efforts will be made to bridge the gap between bureaucracy and the common man and make the bureaucracy responsive to public issues.
BJP president, Ravinder Raina, when contacted, said the mass contact programme will be held in entire UT and BJP activists will visit house to house to apprise the people of the decisions and welfare measures taken by Narendra Modi Government for the people of J&K.
He said the issues confronting the people of J&K will also be taken up with the LG while terming the sanction of free ration to people an achievement of the LG Government. He gave credit to his party saying the issue was taken by it with LG recently.
