SRINAGAR, July 12: Media Education and Research Centre (MERC), University of Kashmir, organized a guest lecture today on “International Relations and Media’s Role in Shaping the Public Perspective.”
The lecture was attended by MERC students, scholars, and faculty members. It was delivered by Dr Syed Jaleel Hussain, a Fulbright-Nehru Postdoctoral Fellow at the Mario Einaudi Centre for International Studies at Cornell University, New York.
Dr Jaleel, who teaches at the Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, stated, “Media practitioners are the builders of perspectives, and perspectives play an important role in shaping global discourses.”
He further emphasized that the media lies at the core of conducting international relations. He stressed the need for media students to develop an unambiguous understanding of the levels and techniques of analysis to facilitate an informed comprehension of international relations and global situations.
Dr Jaleel cited examples from global scenarios to explain international relations and provided students with a three-pronged approach to analyze contemporary events at the global and regional levels.
