Srinagar, July 13: Police today arrested four drug smugglers, peddlers in Baramulla and Handwara and recovered contraband substance from their possession.
In Baramulla, a police party under the supervision of SDPO Pattan Mohd Nawaz, assisted by SHO PS Pattan at a checkpoint established at Kalsari Pattan arrested a drug smuggler identified as Ajay Kumar son of Tara Chand resident of Kishanpuri Khadta Jammu after they intercepted a vehicle (Truck) bearing registration number JK14B-6113.
“During search of the vehicle, 14.2 Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance was recovered. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized. He has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody,” police said.
Meanwhile, a police party under the supervision of SDPO Tangmarg Imtiaz Ahmed, assisted by SHO PS Tangmarg at a checkpoint established Hardu Ichloo Tangmarg intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully, police said.
“During search, 30 grams of Charas like contraband substance was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Umar Ahmad Lone son of Ab Ahad Lone resident of Waniloo Hajibal. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody,” police said.
In Handwara, a police party of Police Station Handwara at a checkpoint established near ITI Handwara intercepted 02 suspicious persons who tried to flee from the spot after noticing the police party but were apprehended tactfully, police said.
They have been identified as Amir Yousuf Dar son of Mohammad Yousuf and Junaid Ahmad Dar son of Ab Rahim, both residents of Waskora. During search, 95 gm of Charas like substance was recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Accordingly, police said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective Police Stations and investigation has been initiated.
“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, contact nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said.
