Christmas Cup: Knight Riders outplay Friends Cricket Club XI in inaugural tie

UDHAMPUR, Dec 15: Knight Riders Udhampur outplayed Friends Cricket Club XI by 6 wickets in the inaugural tie of the Christmas Cup, which gets underway here today.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Friends Cricket Club XI made 67 runs in 10 overs. Knight Riders Udhampur easily chased down the target for the loss of 4 wickets.
The tournament was declared open by Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Inderwal and senior Congress leader Ghulam Mohammad Saroori.
In this tournament 20 teams from across the Jammu, Udhampur, Chennani, Nagrota, Ramban and Kathua are participating.
The winner Knight Riders Udhampur team was given a trophy and cash price, whereas trophy was also presented to Runner up team. Satish of Knight Riders Udhampur was declared as Man of the Match for securing 43 runs and was awarded with a trophy.
While addressing players, Saroori said the tournament like Christian Cup will provide opportunities to the players to excel and be seen in the IPL and other national tournaments.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Chairman, organizing committee Rajan presented a brief note of the tournament. The motive of the tournament is to develop and encourage sports culture in Udhampur and to remember Anwar Hussain, brother of Rajan, who died some couple of years ago.
Chairman Auqaf Tehsil Udhampur, Shakeel Shah, Congress Leader Mansoor Ahmed Mattoo, citizens including Ashu Sharma, Abdul Rashid, Dr KC Sharma and sports lovers were also present.
