SRINAGAR, July 18: In a major achievement, an ace Jammu and Kashmir player Soham Kamotra has won Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory Chess Championship fifth time in a row.
The statement said that the double International Master Norm holder and Commonwealth Gold medalist Soham Kamotra’s brilliance was too much for the opponents as he won all the rounds comfortably. It was a seven round event with Swiss system under latest international rules. Cash prizes worth Rs 25,000 were distributed among the winners.
The event was held at Wazir Indoor Stadium Srinagar and organized by All Jammu and Kashmir Chess Association and sponsored by Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council.
Sumit Grover remained on second position while Mayank Kulkarni got 3rd place, 4th and 5th place went to Asim Billah Wali and Mohd. Ayan Khan. The statement said top 10 players from Kashmir and top 10 players from Jammu division along with top four of previous Chess Championship and four donor entry players participated in the event. The top four players will now represent Jammu and Kashmir in National Chess Championship schedule to be held in Pune next month with cash prizes of Rs 30 Lakhs for top 10 positions.
